Can anyone instruct me on how to turn DVD content (that I have burned from broadcast sources stored on my Tivo) into Quicktime for editing on my Mac? Strictly for archival and/or fair-use artistic purposes, of course.

(Yes, I have searched the forums, but came up empty.)

Thanks,

Stephen Wolf

I heard about this product on the iMovie message boards:

A couple of ways...

1) get a program that can decode the dvd / mpeg2 into a different format (avi, raw, etc.) and then import that into quicktime. There are several Windows programs that can do this, and a few Linux ones, but not too many Mac programs.

2) Buy the dvd / mpeg-2 decoder for quicktime and let quicktime import it itself.

And, of course, this assumes you already have the Pro version of quicktime that can do editing and exporting.

I've gotten DVD footage onto my Mac by dubbing it onto my digital camcorder and then importing the footage into iMovie through the firewire cable. You can then export footage from iMovie into Quicktime.
